Again again // repeat repeat

Tellison split up I think. The distance must have been too much, which I guess I understand. But it upset me, because their first full LP was just the most wonderful record, with tracks like New York, New York, and Gallery it was musically brilliant, mathematically vague, and independently published. But I think they split because I remember thinking that the one good thing was that at least we didn't need to worry about a disappointing second album. If the package that fell onto my welcome mat while I was out to do is anything to go by (It is) then I can safely say their follow up is not rubbish. It is great.

The Wages of Fear is one of those albums that you sort of already like when you get it. Because of Steven's voice. Or that chugging guitar that never quite breaks into the full power chord. The songs are still catchy with lyrics like "I may have some writers block, but I'm still useful to you / I stick up for you in fights and sing to you at night (but only my old songs...)" in the opening track "Get On" being sing along material by the second listen. The first single, Collarbone has a middle eight that I am desperate to shout out at a gig "When we're dancing bones get broken / When we're dancing hearts get broken". But most of what I'm saying is that I love this band for one reason above all others. You know that thing that bands like OK GO do, where they make videos with the intention of going (ugh) 'viral' on the net. Well you can follow the format of [1) Clever 2) Cats 3) ????? 4) Profit] to make them. And Tellison have too, but somehow it's more.

The video below is for Edith, the penultimate track and second single. And it has a cute looking cat, and mexican wrestling, and would you believe it is the most touching video I've seen in years.
